UK CAA/JAA License Renewal/Revalidation

Do you have a pilot license which you have not used for a long time?

Do you think it will be "Just too difficult to get current"?

It is not as difficult as you might think.  If the class rating (usually Single Engine Piston) has not expired by more than 5 years (that is 7 years since it was awarded) then all the flying and paperwork can be done at Kemble.  If it has expired by more than 5 years, then still all the flying can be done at Kemble, but the paperwork is then sent to the CAA for the class rating to be issued.  The requirements for renewal or revalidation are listed below:

Renewal - The class rating has expired and needs to be renewed.

This can be achieved by a short refresher, tailored to each individual, and then flying a PPL skills test with a CAA examiner.

If the rating has not expired by more than 5 years the rating can be issued immediately on passing the test.

Revalidation - Your class rating has not expired yet but is nearing expiry.

There are 2 ways of revalidating your class rating, by test or by experience.  Prior to expiry of the class rating you can arrange to do a PPL skills test and on passing your class rating will be valid for another 2 years from the date of its expiry.

Revalidating by experience requires the following:
With these criteria met the class rating can be signed by any CAA examiner which gives another 24 months validity.

The Flying Club Kemble can arrange all of the above license renewal/revalidation.

More information about license renewal and revalidation can be found in the CAA publication LASORS.
