Kemble Airfield in a Nutshell:
- Superb runway and facilities
- 1st class emergency facilities on site
- Beautiful Cotswold location
- Easy to find from the air making it difficult to get lost
- Close to Lyneham and Brize Norton, both offering 24 hour radar support if you need it
- Great variety of aircraft to watch (including old pistons like the DC3 and fast jets like the Hunter and Gnat)
We think you'd be pushed to find a better uncontrolled airfield in the country
Details:
Kemble has two pristine tarmac runways and four grass ones, the main tarmac runway being long enough to take a Boeing 747. There is a restaurant/bistro (AV8) in the Old Fire Station with great views onto the runway. A large and highly trained fire service is based on site that would put most general aviation airfields to shame. Radio is provided by an “Information service” which gives you all the freedom of being uncontrolled but the training of a seasoned Air Trafficker. Air traffic volume is relatively low, so you rarely have to hold away from the circuit waiting for your chance to come in – it also means you don't have to transmit your message at the speed of light to get in on the radio, which is ideal for training.
